Meetings that begin with a debate about whose number is correct are expensive. The cause is almost never the reporting tool. It is that the same word means different things in different departments.
Start with definitions. For each core measure, agree the calculation, the source system, the timing and the owner. Write it in plain language that a new employee could follow.
Then model the data to match those definitions. If a metric requires a manual adjustment every month, that adjustment is part of the definition and needs to be documented or engineered away.
Finally, publish lineage. When a user can see where a figure came from, trust builds quickly and the reconciliation meetings stop.
This work is unglamorous and it consistently returns more value than another dashboard.
